With the imminent return to schools, guidance is being distributed from the Department of Education and the government. It is clear that the goal is to reduce the disruption to children and young people’s education - particularly given that the direct clinical risks to children are low and every adult has been offered a first vaccine and the opportunity for two doses by mid-September.

Covid-19 restrictions in education settings to end

'Bubbles’ will end for all children under 18, social distancing will no longer be necessary and schools will not need to stagger start and finish times. From 16 August, the legal requirement to self-isolate for contacts of a positive case will end for everyone aged under 18, and for adults who have been fully vaccinated. A pupil who has been a close contact with someone with Covid will be advised to take a PCR test instead. Read more here:

Stay at home: self-isolation rules
