Local Health Needs Assessments and Profiles

A health needs assessment (HNA) provides a detailed look at a specific disease, population or intervention. There are various ways to conduct HNAs, which can include completing a review of the latest data, consulting with professionals, service users and residents, or completing a evidence review to establish what best practice is available. Many HNAs include all these aspects.

This page provides a list of the HNAs and profiles that have been created for the local Berkshire East area. Some of these focus on specific geographies within Berkshire East, while others include the whole Berkshire East or Frimley Integrated Care Board (ICB) area. All of these HNAs have been included in the relevant topic section of the JSNA website.

Overarching Assessments and Profiles (focus on the whole population of a specific geography)

Each Health and Wellbeing Board has a statutory responsibility to publish and keep up to date a statement of needs for pharmaceutical services for their population. This is called the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA). The purpose of the PNA is to inform local plans for the commissioning of specific and specialised pharmaceutical services, which is then used to support the decision-making process for applications for new pharmacies or changes of pharmacy premises undertaken by NHS England.

The latest PNAs for Berkshire East assess whether the current provision of pharmacies meet the needs of residents in Bracknell Forest, Slough and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and whether there are any anticipated gaps in the lifetime of the PNA (1st October 2022 to 30th September 2025).
