Lifestages:

Children and Young People (aged 5 to 19)

Promoting physical and mental health in schools reinforces children’s attainment and achievement. It improves their wellbeing, enabling children to thrive and achieve their full potential. Young people experience huge physical, psychological and behavioural changes as they mature from children to adults. This section includes information that looks at the school age and young people populations and the factors that affect their health and wellbeing, including development, school attainment, immunisations and vaccinations and those who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).

More detailed information about the health and wellbeing of children and young people are incorporated into other sections of the JSNA.

For information about children who may be impacted by health inequalities, such as those with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) or looked after children (LAC), please visit the Inequality groups topic page.

For information about health behaviours (smoking, healthy weight, substance misuse and sexual health) and mental health in children and young people please visit the respective topic pages.
